The National Audit Office and the Ministry of Finance and Economic Management continue to strengthen Montserrat’s public financial management through regional collaboration and capacity building.
Montserrat’s Auditor-General Miss Marsha Meade, together with the Acting Budget Director Miss Tori Greenaway within the Ministry of Finance and Economic Management, recently participated in a one-week specialised workshop on the audit of public debt. The training was jointly hosted and delivered by the Commonwealth Secretariat and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Caribbean Regional Technical Assistance Centre (CARTAC) in Antigua and Barbuda.
The workshop focused on strengthening the capacity of auditors and debt management officials in conducting financial, performance, and compliance audits of public debt, while promoting stronger collaboration between Debt Management Offices and Supreme Audit Institutions. Participants explored international standards, practical approaches to public debt oversight, and strategies to improve transparency, accountability, and governance in debt management.
Participation in the workshop demonstrates Montserrat’s ongoing commitment to enhancing public sector accountability, strengthening institutional cooperation, and adopting international best practices to support sound and sustainable public financial management.
